A transfer update surrounding wantaway Manchester United star Anthony Martial has emerged recently.

Martial’s Manchester United stint

Martial has endured a difficult couple of seasons at Manchester United.

Signed from AS Monaco back in 2015, the now 26-year-old has failed to live up to the hype that surrounded him when he was first brought to Old Trafford.

Martial started out his United career largely being used as a left-winger. However, more recent years have seen him deployed as a centre-forward.

But, unfortunately, it has become fairly clear that the Frenchman is not cut out to be the main no.9 at a top club.

Last season, for example, saw Martial utilised as Man United’s main striker for a good chunk of the campaign, as Edinson Cavani struggled with injury issues.

However, though he featured in 22 of the Red Devils’ 38 league outings before getting injured, Martial would only score four goals.

This season, meanwhile, has seen the Frenchman fare no better. Martial has, so far, notched 10 appearances for Manchester United in all competitions.

In said ties he has scored just once, provided no assists and has largely been used off the bench.

Atletico Madrid want Martial

So, it likely didn’t come as much of a shock to the United faithful when Martial’s agent claimed recently that his client wanted to depart the club in January.

Ralf Rangnick was recently quizzed on these comments, but claimed he had not been informed of this desire to leave by Martial.

Regardless, it appears as though the wheels have been set in motion for a Martial departure.

Newcastle have, obviously, seen themselves linked with a move for the former Monaco man.

Now though, a more high-profile side have been linked. That side is, as per Euro Sport, Atletico Madrid, who are said to be exploring the possibility of an exchange deal for Martial:

Atletico Madrid are planning to explore the possibility of an exchange deal with Manchester United in a bid to land Anthony Martial.

The report suggests that no one player has been identified by Atletico to offer United in exchange for Martial.

But, as Man United have been linked with Kieran Trippier in the past, could we see the Red Devils land their man in exchange for Martial?
