Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang stripped of the captaincy

News broke this morning that, following a disciplinary breach, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had been stripped of the Arsenal captaincy.

It follows an issue where the Gabon striker failed to return on time from a trip to France to see his mother.

As per The Athletic:

“Aubameyang was granted permission to travel to France on Wednesday on the condition that he returned that night, in order to report for training on Thursday.

Aubameyang did not return on Wednesday. Instead, he caught an early flight on Thursday morning before reporting to London Colney. Sources suggest he was on time for training, but as far as Arsenal were concerned, the infraction had already occurred.”

In a statement, the club said:

Following his latest disciplinary breach last week, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will no longer be our club captain, and will not be considered for selection for Wednesday’s match against West Ham United.

We expect all our players, particularly our captain, to work to the rules and standards we have all set and agreed.

We are fully focused on tomorrow’s match.

How his agent reacted

It is safe to say, the news has not gone down well with Aubameyang’s entourage.

As per Charles Watts, the striker was told about the decision on Monday, and now his agent has had his say.

Taking to Instagram, his agent was quick to post photos of Aubameyang lifting the FA Cup and the Community Shield, pointing to his importance to the side in a clear swipe at Mikel Arteta.

He then posted a photo of him lifting the golden boot, to compound his point.

Will the cracks prove too big for Arteta and Aubameyang to bridge, or will they find a working relationship again?
