Aston Villa have been dealt some pretty concerning news regarding a key member of their squad on Tuesday.
Norwich vs Aston Villa
Aston Villa are back in Premier League action later this evening vs Norwich, facing the Canaries at Carrow Road.
Villa have had a mixed start to life under Steven Gerrard, though they did well to only lose 1-0 vs Liverpool this past weekend, with the penalty given for Mohamed Salah’s goal somewhat questionable.
But, Villa still remain in the bottom half of the Premier League table and need to put together a decent run of form in the second half of 2021/22 if hey wish to mount any sort of challenge for European football.
And, vs Norwich, they probably stand a decent chance of beginning that run. Dean Smith lifted Norwich slightly when he took over, but they are still bottom of the league and have scored just eight goals all season.

Nakamba out for rest of season?
Ahead of the Norwich tie, Villa have been dealt some concerning news.
In his pre-Norwich press conference on Monday, Villa boss Steven Gerrard reported that Marvelous Nakamba would miss out vs Norwich and was set to see a specialist on Tuesday (today):
Gerrard: “Marvelous Nakamba will miss the game through injury. He’s recently had an MRI scan which has confirmed a knee issue.
“He’ll go and see a specialist on Tuesday, and we’ll have a further update for you then.”#NORAVL pic.twitter.com/rypKwdoOqG

Now, a fresh update on the situation has emerged recently and it is not good news.
The Athletic report that a decision will be made within the next 48 hours as to whether or not Nakamba will require surgery, adding that there are fears the midfielder could miss the rest of the season.
Following this news, The Athletic also claim that Villa will consider signing another midfielder in the January transfer window. This makes sense given that Nakamba has featured 12 times in the PL already this term and in every single one of Gerrard’s games at the club to date.
Hearing it is bad news for Marvelous Nakamba. He’s out of the AFCON, and his #AVFC season is now also under threat.
A real shame as he was looking so good under Steven Gerrard.More @TheAthleticUK https://t.co/q5AT2cyeDQ
