Leicester vs Tottenham

Tottenham are expected to be back in Premier League action vs Leicester City on Thursday.

Tottenham head into the game sat 7th in the Premier League table. However, due to their clash with Burnley being called off because of snow and their recent Brighton tie being postponed due to the Covid-19 outbreak at the club, Spurs have played at least two games less than most of the sides around them.

As a result, should Spurs win their two games in hand, they would actually move up to 4th in the Premier League table.

Leicester, meanwhile, bounced back from their recent dip by smashing Newcastle last time out.

Antonio Conte on Tottenham’s Covid-19 situation

Ahead of the Leicester meeting, Antonio Conte spoke to the press on Wednesday.

And, of course, Tottenham’s recent covid outbreak was a major taking point.

Conte confirmed last week that Tottenham had eight first-team players out with the virus.

It was then reported on Monday that another first-team star had tested positive, whilst there is a widespread outbreak among the under-23s:

When speaking about the covid situation at Spurs on Wednesday, Conte confirmed that they trained with 16 players on Wednesday:

“Last week was terrible because the government decides, in the right way, to close the training ground and stop our training session. I had the press conference where it’s very difficult to speak about football.

“Then we had Thursday, Friday and Saturday without any sessions. Sunday we started again to work with not many players, because we also had problems with U23s.

“We started with 13/14 players [on Sunday] and today we had training with 16 players and more young players.”

Conte added:

“The situation has not changed so much. Players are back in training and other players are continuing to be selected. Those players who are back in training they need time to find the right physical condition.

“The Covid is not only 10 days and many times he brings with this virus a situation that you make your body not so strong. For this reason you have players injured after Covid.”

The Tottenham boss also confirmed that Spurs want to play the Rennes match that they were unable to because of the virus:

“We want to play the game. Tottenham deserves to play the game and the last game of this group. I think it’s a really strange situation. When the government decides to close our training ground and we cannot train and it’s for this reason we cannot play, not another reason. We don’t have fault. We deserve to play this game and try to go to the next round.”
