Reports stemming from Spain have credited Barcelona with an interest in Dani Olmo.

Olmo’s career so far

Dani Olmo was brought into Barcelona’s famed La Masia youth system in 2007 but despite spending eight years at the club, he was never afforded a senior appearance.

Olmo would then leave Barca in 2015 for Dinamo Zagreb, who sold him to Leipzig last year.

During his stint in Croatia, Olmo notched 124 outings for Zagreb, in which he was able to score 34 and provide 28 assists.

Then, as mentioned above, Olmo was snapped up by RB Leipzig in 2020, who he has since featured on 67 occasions for, scoring 12 and assisting 14 in the process.

Olmo back to Barcelona?

But now, could we be set to see Olmo return to Barcelona?

If the aforementioned reports stemming from Spain are anything to go by, then this could well happen.

As per Goal citing Spanish outlet El Nacional:

Barcelona are preparing to table a €30 million (£26m/$34m) bid for Spain international forward Dani Olmo during the winter window, claims El Nacional. A man that spent time in the famed La Masia academy system as a youngster is currently on the books of Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig.

Though no doubt a quality talent, do Barcelona actually need to sign Olmo right now?

His main positions are centre mid or attacking mid. And, though there are a lot of problems with Barcelona’s squad right now, you would probably say that midfield is not one of them.

Pedri, Gavi, Nico Gonzalez and Riqui Puig are all very promising talents, whilst Frenkie de Jong has shown in the past that he is a world-class player.

With this in mind, would Xavi and co. not be bettered served spending that cash elsewhere?
