It has recently been claimed that Manchester United are leading the chase for German starlet, Florian Wirtz.

Who is Florian Wirtz?

Florian Wirtz is just 18 years of age, but he has already firmly cemented himself in Bayer Leverkusen’s senior side.

Wirtz joined the club from FC Koln’s youth ranks back in January of 2020, and has since become an instant success.

The teen is a central attacking midfielder by trade, but can also play on the left-wing.

And, during his time with Leverkusen, he has now scored 17 goals and provided 19 assists in 68 outings.

Such fine form at such a young age has seen Wirtz already linked with some top sides, two of whom ply their trade in the Premier League.

Reports stemming from Italy earlier this year claimed that Arsenal are ready to compete with Manchester United for the signing of the wunderkind.

Manchester United to sign Wirtz?

Now, as mentioned above, a fresh transfer update concerning Wirtz has emerged recently.

The update comes via the Mirror, who are citing a report from the Sun.

It is claimed that Manchester United are ‘leading the chase’ for the German who is expected to cost £60m, with it added that United face competition for his signature.

The other three teams mentioned as having an interest in Wirtz by the Mirror are Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

However, they also explain that with Chelsea already having signed Kai Havertz from Leverkusen (he and Wirtz operate in very similar roles), Bayern Munich not willing to spend that much on a youngster and Real Madrid saving their funds in an attempt to sign Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland, United are in pole position to land the starlet.
