Manchester United and Newcastle need reinforcements

After the two sides battled to a draw on the pitch on Monday night, both Manchester United and Newcastle are set to do battle in the transfer market too.

The target in question?

Marseilles midfielder Boubacar Kamara.

Manchester United are looking to implement a high press with energetic midfielders, and while Fred and Scott McTominay are good players, there is certainly room for improvement, with RB Leipzig’s Amadou Haidara and Marseille’s Boubacar Kamara both lined up as potential additions, according to reports.

Meanwhile, Newcastle are also looking to add quality to their ranks in midfield, and have singled out the France U21 international as the man to help them do that.

However, they could both be beaten to the punch on Kamara.

Jose Mourinho keen on Kamara

Now, as per Italian outlet Il Tempo, Roma could be set to beat the pair of Premier League clubs to the punch, making a move for Kamara even as they tie up a deal for Arsenal’s Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

With Kamara’s contract expiring in June 2022, Roma are looking to come to an agreement with the French side in January, beating off some of the competition who may be eyeing up the soon to be free agent come the summer.

Marseilles are thought to be open to selling the midfielder, knowing that he will walk away for nothing should an agreement not be reached come the end of the January transfer window, and should Roma be willing to pay, Newcastle and Manchester United could both be dealt a killer blow.
