Brentford vs Aston Villa

One of several Premier League ties taking place on Sunday afternoon will see Aston Villa face off with Brentford at the Brentford Community Stadium.

Villa head into the game on a pretty patchy run of form, having won two and lost three of their last five league ties.

However, they are facing a Brentford side who are in even worse form at present, with the Bees having notched just one victory from their last five.

Ahead of the Brentford game, Steven Gerrard spoke to the press on Friday.

Gerrard hints at reason for Ollie Watkins missing out vs Brentford

However, when Aston Villa released their starting line-up and matchday squad ahead of kick-off vs Brentford, there was another big name noticeably absent.

The player in question was striker, Ollie Watkins.

Watkins missing out was not brought up by Gerrard in his most recent press conference, so the omission of the hitman was somewhat odd.

And, when drawn on Watkins missing out vs Brentford, the Villa boss would not explicitly say the reason. However, as reported by the BBC, Gerrard did say Villa are suffering from covid issues, seemingly suggesting that Watkins may have covid? Because, if it were an injury, Gerrard would surely not hide that?

Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard has declined to explicitly state the reason for Ollie Watkins’ absence but confirmed Villa are suffering problems with Covid and injuries. Read into that what you will.
