Arsenal need a striker?

The Gunners currently have a number of striking options on their books. However, the majority could certainly be improved upon.

Alexandre Lacazette has been used as Arsenal’s main no.9 under Mikel Arteta. However, the Frenchman is out of contract this summer.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is another experienced option at centre-forward, but he generally performs best on the left-wing. And, his future has also been called in question following a disciplinary breach.

This leaves the inexperienced trio of Eddie Nketiah, Gabriel Martinelli and Folarin Balogun.

Nketiah is out of contract this summer, whilst Balogun is yet to prove that he can cut it up top for a club who are supposed to be eyeing European football.

As for Martinelli, he has certainly been a bright spark for Arsenal in recent weeks. However, the Brazilian has actually played most of his best football from the left-wing and, given his inexperience, Arsenal would probably not wish to rely on him as their main no.9 right now.

Arsenal eye Isak

So, it seems fairly obvious that Arsenal will need to purchase a quality striker in the next year or so.

A number of names have been linked, with ESPN claiming recently that all of Alexander Isak, Dusan Vlahovic, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Ollie Watkins are said to be of interest to Mikel Arteta.

Now, an update on Arsenal’s pursuit of Isak has emerged.

As per the Daily Star citing Spanish outlet El Nacional:

Arsenal have emerged as the ‘most likely destination’ for Real Sociedad and Sweden striker Alexander Isak despite Xavi’s desire to bring the forward to Barcelona.

No potential fee is mentioned in the report, but one would assume that Isak would not come cheap given his current ability and potential.
