Newcastle “confident” of first Eddie Howe signing

Newcastle could well be in for a busy January transfer window as their new owners seek to keep them in the top flight, despite currently sitting in 19th place with just one win to their name at the midway point.

Flush with cash, the Magpies are almost certain to make several additions to their side, both in defence and attack, and it appears as though they are closing in on their first one.

The man in question? Current Atletico Madrid and former Tottenham full-back Kieran Trippier.

As per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, a deal is about to be discussed for around 25 million pounds plus the potential of further add-ons, which seems steep for a 31 year old, but then money is no object for the Tyneside club.

Romano reveals:

Newcastle are confident to complete Kieran Trippier signing as reported last night. Final proposal around £25m, add ons to be discussed with Atletico. Player wants Premier League move.

So, who could be next?

Newcastle dealt double blow but continue to search

As 101 reported earlier, deals for top centre-back target Sven Botman and forward Darwin Nunez appear difficult for the club to pull off, even with their newly acquired financial muscle.

However, that will not stop the Magpies from trying. The likes of James Tarkowski and even Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have all been mooted as potential targets for Eddie Howe’s side, both of which would represent significant coups for a side in the position that Newcastle find themselves.
