Lukaku dropped following interview

Unless you have been living under a rock, you are probably aware of the Romelu Lukaku interview that was released last week.

The interview, held by Sky Italia, has caused quite a stir amongst the Chelsea faithful, not all that surprising when taking into account Lukaku’s comments:

On the back of the controversy, Thomas Tuchel opted to leave Lukaku out of Chelsea’s matchday squad to take on Liverpool this past weekend.

Romelu Lukaku apologises

Now though, it looks as though the air has been cleared between Tuchel and Lukaku.

Speaking in his pre-Tottenham press conference earlier on Tuesday, the Chelsea boss confirmed Lukaku had apologised and was back in the squad training:

“First of all, we were happy that we took the time needed to talk calmly on it. This is what we did. He apologised and he is back in the squad for today’s training.

“For me, the most important thing was to clearly understand and believe that this was not intentional. He did not do this intentionally to create noise ahead of a big game.”

Now, Lukaku has come out to issue a public apology to Chelsea fans:

“To the fans I’m sorry for the upset that I caused,” Lukaku said in a video released on Chelsea’s social media channels.

“You guys know the connection that I have with this club, since my teenage years, so you know, I totally understand you guys being upset.

“Obviously it’s up to me now to restore your trust and I’ll do my best to show commitment every day on the training ground to make sure that we win games.

“And also to the manager to my team-mates and the board because I think it was not the right moment also. And I want to move forward from this and make sure that we start winning football games and I perform for the team in the best manner.”
