Manchester United struggling under Rangnick

New boss Ralf Rangnick was supposed to have a transformative effect on Manchester United in the wake of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s emotional departure in November, but that has proved far from the case.

If anything, the Red Devils have got worse, with a 1-0 defeat at home to Wolves a flattering scoreline for a side that created little, and whose standout player had not played a game of senior football in almost two years in the form of Phil Jones.

And in the days since, news has surfaced that some United players are unsure whether the man in charge is up to task, with several feeling that he most definitely is not.

So, what can they do about it in January? Well, additions in midfield would not go amiss, with Nemanja Matic well past his best and Scott McTominay and Fred both average but not trophy winning level.

Step forward, Ruben Neves.

Why Manchester United could get Neves deal done

According to the Sun, Manchester United have revived their long-standing interest in Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves this January, as they hunt for reinforcements who can make an immediate impact at Old Trafford this season.

And Manchester United could well be in the driving seat for any potential deal, with Arsenal’s reported summer interest having seemingly evaporated. Meanwhile, it has been widely reported that Wolves need to sell before they can buy this January, with the owners not keen on spending yet more from their own pocket.

And while it was assumed that this would see the departure of Adama Traore, the Spaniard is not yet under any bid from clubs, meaning that Wolves may have to look to sell other players to make moves this January.

Neves has two years left on his current deal at Molineux, and should he be sold, would fetch a handsome fee.

Could Wolves be better off letting him go this window and reinvesting, or should they wait until the summer?
