Newcastle have submitted an improved offer for Lille centre-back Sven Botman after wrapping up a deal for Kieran Trippier.

Newcastle would officially announce their first signing of the January transfer window on Friday morning.

The North East outfit have signed Kieran Trippier from Spanish powerhouse, Atletico Madrid.

It is understood that the Magpies have landed Trippier for an initial £12m, plus add-ons.

Trippier has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with the Magpies.

Now though, as mentioned above, Newcastle have turned their attentions towards landing a central defender – a wise move given the amount of goals they leak.
