Arsenal’s 2021/22

Arsenal are having one of their best seasons for many, many years.

The Gunners are currently sat 4th in the Premier League table, with only Tottenham potentially able to knock them off that spot if they win their games in hand.

Regardless, Arsenal have seemingly turned a corner following a very solid 2021 summer transfer window.

And, despite not being in Europe, Mikel Arteta still has a decent shot at some silverware this campaign, with his side in the semi-finals of the League Cup.

Where Arsenal need to improve

2021/22, though, has not been all plain sailing for the Gunners.

One of their biggest issues has been their inability to beat the big Premier League sides.

Yes, their recent display against Manchester City was, barring two individual errors, very impressive. But Arsenal still ultimately lost the game 2-1.

Before the City loss last week, Arsenal would lose to Chelsea in gameweek two by two goals to nil – a scoreline that could have easily been higher.

This was followed by a 5-0 hammering at the hands of Manchester City and a 4-0 hammering at the hands of Liverpool.

Then, despite Man United experiencing a period of change at the club, Arteta’s Arsenal still lost to them 3-2.

The only ‘top-six’ side Arsenal have beaten this season is Tottenham who, let’s face it, were in awful form and probably do not even deserve their spot in the ‘top-six’ anyway.

So, it was not at all surprising to hear Roy Keane say recently that Arsenal have a softness about them and they need to improve against the better teams:

“Considering where they were at the start of the season when they were under huge pressure. They’ve recovered well and got themselves in a good position.

“There’s some really great, exciting young players but I still feel there’s a softness. They’ve lost against the better teams and that’s where they need to improve.”
