Newcastle need defensive additions
Newcastle are in dire need of reinforcements, especially in defence, where they have the worst record in the Premier League.

And while the addition of Kieran Trippier is good, they need more especially at centre-back.
But they have been dealt another blow today.
Newcastle dealt killer blow
Now, it appears that Newcastle have been dealt a killer blow in the transfer market as their main centre-back target is set to slip away from them. The Athletic report that Sven Botman is due to stay with Lille until at least the end of the season, despite heavy interest from the Magpies.

According to the report:
Barring an unexpected twist, Botman will stay with the French side until the summer and it has left Newcastle with little choice but to intensify the pursuit of other players from their list of candidates for central defence.
They were already working on a deal for Sevilla’s Diego Carlos in addition to Botman, while Benoit Badiashile of Monaco is among the potential back-ups — although the Ligue 1 club are known to be seeking a hefty price.
Will Newcastle be able to find defensive reinforcement before their clash with Watford at the weekend, in what already looks like a relegation six-pointer.
