Real Madrid star Karim Benzema has taken to social media on Thursday, to send a simple message to Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez.

Valverde makes the difference

The latest edition of El Clasico was of course played out a little over 24 hours ago.

The matchup came in the semi-finals of the Spanish Super Cup, where the aforementioned Real and Barca locked horns for the 2nd time this season.

And to say that, when all was said and done, the clash lived up to its billing would be something of an understatement.

A thrilling 5-goal affair ultimately saw Carlo Ancelotti’s Blancos emerge victorious, to book their spot in a Super Cup showpiece meeting with either Atletico Madrid or Athletic Bilbao.

After all of Vinicius Jr, Luuk de Jong, Karim Benzema and Ansu Fati traded goals, the evening’s telling moment was eventually forthcoming deep into injury-time, when Federico Valverde swept home on the back of a superbly-worked counter attack:

‘Respect’

The hard-fought nature of the action in Riyadh on Wednesday night, though, evidently didn’t prove quite enough to force a rift between one high-profile member of each side of the Clasico divide.

The individuals in question? Karim Benzema and Xavi Hernandez.

As alluded to above, taking to his personal Instagram account this evening, Benzema, who continued his scintillating personal stretch of form against Barca, reached out to the Blaugrana’s boss.

In a simple one-word message, Real’s main man posted a photo of himself and Xavi exchanging pleasantries post-match, accompanied by the caption ‘Respect’:
