Word stemming from South America late on Friday hints that Andreas Pereira is inching towards seeing his stint on the books of Manchester United brought to a definitive close.

Flamengo stint

Brazilian international Pereira is of course currently in the midst of a 2nd successive temporary spell away from Old Trafford.

After struggling to nail down a starting berth in Italy with Lazio last season, the 25-year-old returned to base this past summer, before being swiftly shipped off once more.

Pereira secured a move to his home country, with Brasileiro giants Flamengo.

And to say that he has since enjoyed an upturn in fortunes in Rio de Janeiro would be putting it lightly.

The once so highly-regarded midfield talent has gone on to establish himself as an integral figure in Flamengo’s ranks in the middle of the park, racking up five goals and an assist across 18 league appearances thus far (16 starts).

Permanent exit imminent?

In turn, it has come as little surprise to hear of murmurs beginning to spread of late regarding a potentially permanent departure from Manchester for Pereira.

With the likes of Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes, Fred, Scott McTominay and Nemanja Matic above him in the midfield pecking order in Ralf Rangnick’s squad, it is viewed as likely that the Red Devils would sanction a sale, in the event of a sufficient offer arriving.

And, as alluded to above, precisely that, on Friday, appears to have been forthcoming.

As per a report from TNT Sports in Brazil, Pereira’s agent today presented an official proposal to Manchester United, on the part of Flamengo.

The bid is understood to have resulted in negotiations between the clubs stepping up a gear, with Pereira now ‘close’ to seeing his move back to Brazil made a permanent one.

A deal worth a fee in the region of €10 million, as a result, is expected to be announced over the coming weeks.
