Footage of the post-match scenes on the back of the clash between Ghana and Gabon this evening has gone altogether viral across social media.

Ayew’s strike not enough

The latest Group C fixture at the African Cup of Nations played out a short time ago.

After slipping to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Morocco in their tournament opener, faltering heavyweights Ghana were on this occasion tasked with getting the better of Gabon, to get their AFCON journey back on track.

When all was said and done at the Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo, however, Milovan Rajevac’s men once again flattered to deceive, on their way to a 1-1 stalemate.

Ghana did open the scoring on the night, courtesy of a moment of individual brilliance on the part of former West Ham and Swansea City star Andre Ayew:

A twist, however, remained in the tale, as minnows Gabon, sans the services of key performers Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mario Lemina, bagged a crucial equaliser with just minutes remaining, through Jim Allevinah:

Ghana, in turn, remain 3rd in the Group C table, with just a solitary fixture to play.

Tetteh’s moment of madness

And, as alluded to above, on the back of the full-time whistle in Yaounde, one member of the Black Stars’ squad allowed his emotions to very much get the better of him.

The player in question? Benjamin Tetteh.

After a scuffle broke out between the opposing squads, Tetteh lashed out, directing a punch into the face of one of Gabon’s stars.

From here, the striker managed to make his way off the field of play and back to the Ghana dressing room.

Captain Thomas Partey, however, was subsequently directed by the team of officials to order Tetteh back out into sight, eventually resulting in the 24-year-old being shown a deserved straight red card.

Another chaotic scene amid what has been a thoroughly entertaining AFCON tournament to date…
