Arsenal fall in FA Cup third round

History repeated itself as Arsenal fell in the third round of the FA Cup away to Nottingham Forest, thanks to a late goal from veteran forward Lewis Grabban.

A much-changed Arsenal side, that handed a full-debut to Charlie Patino, failed to register a shot on target across the 90 minutes, and were deservedly put out of the competition against the Championship opposition who, on the night, seemed to want it more.

It is the second time in 5 years that Nottingham Forest have bested Arsenal, beating them 4-2 in the 3rd round of the 2017-18 FA Cup, which proved Arsene Wenger’s final game of the competition.

Owner becoming Arsenal’s nemesis

For their owner Evangelos Marinakis and his son, however, it is becoming a regular occurrence. The Greek family also own Super League side Olympiacos, who knocked Arsenal out of the 2020 Europa League and also beat them 1-0 in the 2021 iteration of the tournament, although they did end up heading home across the two legs.

However, they and their sides are becoming quite the nemesis for the Gunners, having beaten them on four occasions out of a possible six in the past 4 years.

And now, as per Nottinghamshire Live, his son, Mitiadis, took to Instagram to express his delight at the result.

“Miltiadis filmed a video which he shared on Twitter of Forest fans celebrating the victory and Tweeted: “That’s what Nottingham Forest is all about. Proud of the team and supporters today. Let’s keep going! #NFFC”

With Arsenal not in European competitions this season, there is no chance that they will have the chance to add to his victory tally over the Gunners this season. However, next season could be a different story.
