Ralf Rangnick speaks out on Manchester United’s big issue

Ralf Rangnick has endured a somewhat mixed start to life in Manchester.

The German has lost just one game with the Red Devils so far, falling to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Wolves on January 3rd.

However, it has been the nature of many a United performance under Rangnick that has caused quite a stir online, with Gary Neville labelling United players as ‘whingebags’ after a poor showing vs Newcastle, which they drew 1-1.

Now, Ralf Rangnick has spoken out about what he believes is a big issue with the current Manchester United team.

And that, according to Rangnick, is that they lose too many balls in transition when they are in possession:

“One of the biggest issues we have is that we lose too many balls in transition when we are in possession. It’s one of the things that worries me most, to be honest.

“We had quite a few situations where we had three-v-three against Villa in the cup game and against Wolves where we just had to make the right decision, stay calm on the ball, not play the ball too early and it is those moments and areas where we need to improve and get better.

“In total, as I said, the team is more than willing to develop and work hard on those things. Against the ball, we have become better.

“It’s not as easy to score goals against us but on the other hand, we need to make sure that when we’re in possession of the ball we don’t have too many giveaways and too many situations where we take the wrong decision, play the ball too early or not concise enough. These are exactly those moments where we need to get better in future.”

Aston Villa vs Manchester United

Manchester United players will have a chance to improve on this later today when they face off with Aston Villa for the second time in the space of a week on Saturday evening.

The Red Devils face a trip to Villa Park for a 5:30 pm UK time Premier League kick-off.

Ralf Rangnick’s men headed into the weekend’s action sitting 7th in the table, but could climb as high as 5th should they win their games in hand.

As for Aston Villa, they sit down in 13th place, and have now lost their last three outings across all competitions.
