Reports coming out of Spain have linked FC Barcelona with Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino.

Roberto Firmino’s Liverpool stint

Roberto Firmino made the move to Liverpool in 2015, after departing German outfit, Hoffenheim.

Throughout much of his stint in England, Firmino, alongside Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, formed a deadly attacking trident, with all three having proven integral to Liverpool reaching two Champions League finals, and winning their first-ever Premier League title.

However, whilst Mane and Salah have still looked solid for the most part, Firmino has proven somewhat off the pace for a year or so now.

In 48 outings last term, the forward notched just nine goals and nine assists.

In 2021/22, meanwhile, Firmino has scored four and assisted two in 11 PL ties. Not a terrible record, but it is still probably fair to say that the Brazilian’s impact for Liverpool has diminished somewhat.

Barcelona eye Firmino

Firmino is also 30 years of age and has just 18 months remaining on his current Liverpool contract.

Now, as mentioned above, reports coming out of Spain have linked FC Barcelona with the forward.

Barca Universal, citing Spanish outlet El Nacional, report that Barcelona are one of the parties interested in Firmino’s signature and with the South American’s contract with Liverpool ending in the summer of 2023, the player could be available at a discounted price.

What that discounted price actually is isn’t mentioned in the report.

But regardless, would Liverpool actually be willing to part with Firmino?

Perhaps a case could be made for a summer move, but it seems out of the question that the Reds would sell Firmino this month whilst Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah are away at the AFCON.
