Aubameyang sits out Gabon clash with heart problem
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, frozen out by Arsenal since December 2021, was expected to shine in AFCON for Gabon this January.
However, picking up COVID-19 while partying with the Gabon squad ahead of the tournament, he sat out the first game of the tournament, and a worrying reason was provided.
According to the Gabon FootballFederation:
“According to the CAF medical commission, the players Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, Axel Meyé and Mario Lemina barely out of the Covid cannot take part in this match. The examinations would show cardiac lesions. CAF did not want to take any risks. ”

Selon la commission médicale de la CAF, les joueurs Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, Axel Meyé et Mario Lemina à peine sortis du Covid ne peuvent pas prendre part à ce match.
Les examens présenteraient des lésions cardiaques.

A relatively common side affect of COVID-19, it nonetheless sidelined Aubameyang and two others for the clash, and now it seems as though he won’t be taking any further part.
Auba to fly home
Now, it has emerged that Aubameyang is set to return to Arsenal in order to have further cardiac checks as a result of the complications he has suffered from COVID.
Gabon coach Patrice Neveu has said Aubameyang is now returning to Arsenal for further checks after having some complications following Covid.

This is the latest in a series of setbacks for the Arsenal star, who contracted malaria last year and has also had personal issues affecting the last 12 months of his career. He also missed the opening three games of this season due to another period of positive COVID-19.
Hopefully for his sake, it is just ultra-precautionary as opposed to anything too serious.
