Arsenal vs Liverpool

Arsenal and Liverpool are set to play out the second of two League Cup semi-final legs on Thursday.

The winner of said tie will meet Chelsea in the final for a chance at the first bit of proper silverware up for grabs in England this season.

The first leg, due to a postponement, would be played out at Anfield last week. Arsenal had a torrid start to the match and would be down to 10 men after less than 30 minutes after Granit Xhaka was, to the surprise of few, shown a red card for a stupid challenge.

Liverpool, though, were unable to break the deadlock on the day, with 1-10-man Arsenal holding out for a 0-0 draw on the evening, leaving things fairly even for the second leg this week.

Oxlade-Chamberlain out of Arsenal game

Ahead of the game, Jurgen Klopp’s assistant, Pep Lijnders, would hold a pre-match press conference.

When speaking to the press, Lijnders would rule a Liverpool midfielder out of the game.

The player in question is Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who picked an issue during Liverpool’s win over Brentford at the weekend.

And when discussing Ox on Wednesday, the Liverpool coach confirmed that he is out vs Arsenal, but could return at the weekend:

“He gives so much to the team because of the variety he can play with because he can play on the eight, he can play on the nine, he can play on the wing and he plays all these positions with a lot of quality. He is in a really good moment so it’s a shame that he falls away.

“I spoke yesterday with him and he thinks it’s not that bad. We have to assess it day by day. I would not rule out the weekend but for sure not tomorrow.”
