Spanish giants Barcelona are said to have been offered two left-backs this month as the new Xavi regime at the Camp Nou continues to revamp the squad under the iconic former midfielder.

Those links come from Spanish transfer journalist Gerard Romero who claims that both Alex Telles and Nicolás Tagliafico have been tabled as potential transfer options for the Blaugrana before the conclusion of the winter window.

At current, Xavi can only count upon veteran Spanish international Jordi Alba and 18-year-old La Masia Álex Balde on the left side of the back four. Theoretically, improved quality in that position would suit Barça both currently in the advent of injury befalling Alba, but also long-term as there is no telling how long the former Valencia defender will be able to perform at the highest level for the club.

Telles has featured regularly for Manchester United over the last two months but that comes on the back of fitness issues around Luke Shaw and long term the 29-year-old is not expected to be anything other than a backup at Old Trafford. Though the same would be expected at Barcelona, a change of scenery could be on the cards at the very least.

As for Tagliafico, the Argentine international remains a standout performer at Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam but testing himself at the highest level in Europe at a club the size of Barcelona could be an enticing proposition for the 29-year-old.

Dembele to leave the Camp Nou

Despite Barcelona hoping to extend the contract of French international winger Ousmane Dembélé, the former Borussia Dortmund starlet is set to depart the Camp Nou after Barça chief Mateu Alemany lifted the lid on the player’s refusal to remain at the club.

Dembélé was meant to be a key piece of the puzzle under Xavi after a deal securing Ferran Torres from Manchester City added the Spanish international to a young core of wide men in Catalunya that the club could structure the long-term attacking picture around.

But the news of his impending departure throws a spanner in the works for the club, though the pathway is now clear for Ansu Fati and Ferran Torres to be relied upon unincumbered for the remainder of the season.
