Newcastle desperately need new signings as they look to survive in the top flight, and every passing day without them makes it more likely that they will begin next season in the Championship.

So far, they have added Chris Wood and Kieran Trippier to their side, but are still lacking a commanding defender, something that they have been chasing all transfer window.

But a worrying update has emerged about any potential addition of Diego Carlos.

The Brazilian defender was thought to be a serious target for the Magpies, but now another Premier League club are thought to have matched the bid that Eddie Howe’s side for the Sevilla man, although it is unclear which side.

And now, Talksport report that Newcastle are considering ending their chase for the centre-back, with time running out in the January transfer window and still plenty to do on Tyneside. Having so far been unable to agree a fee for the 28 year old, they may be set to turn their attentions elsewhere.
