It has been a week to forget for Arsenal and Ghana midfielder, Thomas Partey.

The midfielder would begin the week at the African Cup of Nations with Ghana.

However, after suffering a humiliating loss at the hands of Comoros on Tuesday, Ghana crashed out of the competition at the group stage.

As a result, Partey was able to fly home and make the bench for Arsenal’s League Cup semi-final meeting with Liverpool.

Partey would be brought on after 74 minutes with his side 1-0 down. However, he was not on the pitch long and was shown a second yellow card after 90 minutes.

Following his dismissal, Partey has penned a message to Arsenal fans via his Instagram: “I’m responsible for anything that happened and will take all the critiques.

“I should be more intelligent not to get in a challenge already booked but this is my personality, I like to fight for every ball.

“I love this club and I love my country even though things sometimes don’t happen how I wanted, I would continue to work harder and make things right. I came back with the mentality to make myself available for the team to get to the final. But it did not happen as planned.

“I will continue to give my all when am on the field of play because this is my life and this is what I chose to to do.

“Am not happy with all that happened yesterday and at the AFCON but I understand only with hard work things will change so I will continue to work hard to change this. Thanks.”

Do Arsenal have a discipline issue?

Following Partey’s sending off, the topic of Arsenal’s disciplinary record under Mikel Arteta has been brought to the fore.

Just this year, Arsenal have received a staggering three red cards in four games, one more than the number of goals they have scored in 2022.

Following the Liverpool game, Arteta was asked about whether he was concerned by the red card record at Arsenal, to which he stated: “Yes. We played last three games with ten men. When you do that it’s difficult to win matches.”
