Word stemming from the media late on Monday suggests that Tottenham Hotspur are on the verge of pushing a deal for Wolverhampton Wanderers star Adama Traore over the line.

The info comes courtesy of Sky Italy transfer journalist Matteo Moretto, who has provided the most definitive media statement yet regarding Traore’s move to north London.

Moretto claims that the Spaniard is ‘about to’ join up with Antonio Conte’s squad, as the Lilywhites finally prepare to announce their first signing of the January transfer window.

Spurs are understood to have seen an opening offer worth around £15 million for Traore rejected last week, albeit with the transfer team at the club having ‘expected’ as much.

In turn, the assumption is that Daniel Levy and co. have returned with an improved proposal, with the board at Molineux finally set to cave.

Derby defeat

Word of Tottenham stepping up their pursuit of Traore of course comes just 24 hours on from Antonio Conte’s troops being dealt a harsh dose of reality by capital rivals Chelsea.

Spurs made the trip to Stamford Bridge on Sunday evening, hopeful of building on a last-gasp downing of Leicester in midweek to further close the gap on the Premier League’s top-4.

When all was said and done, however, the visitors were simply outclassed by a superior Chelsea outfit.

Goals on the part of Hakim Ziyech and Thiago Silva proved enough to guide Thomas Tuchel’s European champions to a comfortable 2-0 win, leaving Tottenham two points adrift of the Champions League pace, albeit whilst boasting games in hand on all of the sides above them.
