The drama surrounding the immediate future of Jesse Lingard continues to swirl after his brother has once again taken to social media to voice concern and frustration regarding a potential January loan move away from the club.

Louie Scott posted on his personal Instagram account on the situation, likening Lingard’s current status at Old Trafford to Akon’s song ‘Locked up.’

Scott also took another swipe at United when he mentioned last January’s temporary move to West Ham as Lingard being ‘allowed’ on day release.

Certainly, those in the camp of the England international have reason to feel as though Lingard is being held in some sort of prison in the northwest of England as United continues to stand in the way of any potential move in January amid serious interest from cash-backed Newcastle.

Lingard is also subject to interest from West Ham after a scintillating loan spell last season and the Hammers could come back in for the England man as they look to add further attacking depth before the resumption of their Europa League campaign.

Newcastle remain in the transfer trenches as January door starts to close

Money is not everything, and it is a hard reality that conglomerate-owned Newcastle is finding out this month as the Magpies continue to look for quality in a difficult January market to give boss Eddie Howe the tools to craft a great escape from the drop zone.

Having already completed deals for Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood, Newcastle is reportedly on the final stretch of securing a shock deal for Olympique Lyonnais standout midfielder, and Brazilian international Bruno Guimarães.

A further two deals have also been mooted over the next crucial couple of days for Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah and Brighton’s Dan Burn. But the Seagulls have rebuffed the Magpies though headway on the Nketiah front seems to have been made.

Despite some ground that has been gained, Newcastle has been turned down by a host of clubs and players this month either through unwillingness to lose key players without a pathway to replace them, or the player(s) being unwilling to join a relegation scrap irrespective of the wage gains.

Regardless of what has transpired for better or worse previously, it is sure to be a busy period at St. James’ Park in the run-up to the conclusion of the winter window.
