A fresh update on Newcastle’s pursuit of Manchester United shot-stopper Dean Henderson has emerged.

Reports surfaced on Sunday morning that claimed Newcastle were in talks with Manchester United over a deadline day move for Dean Henderson.

This comes with Newcastle boss Eddie Howe said to be unconvinced by Martin Dubravka:

However, it appears as though Newcastle’s chances of signing Henderson are very low.

As per Craig Hope of the Daily Mail, talks have taken place between Newcastle and Manchester United over the last 24 hours, but Henderson moving to Newcastle now looks unlikely.

Henderson out in the cold at Manchester United

A blow for Newcastle, yes, but also something of a blow for Dean Henderson.

Henderson, of course, enjoyed a spectacular 2019/20 campaign on the books of Sheffield United.

Henderson had excelled with the Blades over the season prior, though it remained unclear if the Englishman was ready to deal with the step-up to the Premier League.

However, in the end, Henderson went on to take to the English top-flight like a duck to water, playing a key role in Sheffield United’s sensational return to the Premier League.

Henderson has since returned to Manchester were he has been attempting to fight it out for the no.1 spot with David de Gea.

But the Englishman continues to be used sparingly whilst De Gea looks to be returning to his best.

And with a World Cup year now upon us, Henderson probably could have done with a move elsewhere to get some much-needed minutes.
