It is not shaping up to be a happy transfer deadline day for Arsenal, with a new striker craved by the fans but no major signing yet linked with a move to the club.

One move that does seem likely to go through, however, is Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s loan move to Barcelona. The Gabonese forward and former Arsenal captain has not played since he was stripped of the Arsenal captaincy in November, and was left out of the squad trip to Dubai, the final indication that all bridges had been burned.

It is expected that the Catalan outfit will cover his wages for the remainder of the season, when he will return to the Emirates stadium and a decision will have to be taken as to how much Arsenal are willing to sell their former Talisman for.

Nketiah going nowhere

In perhaps the most damning suggestion that Arsenal will not be signing a new centre forward, Eddie Nketiah is now expected to stay at the club. A pair of offers from Crystal Palace were rejected, and while Newcastle showed interest in the youngster, who has just 6 months left to run on his contract, Luke Edwards of the Telegraph now suggests there is “no chance” a deal happens.

This will not come as good news to Arsenal fans. And, with just hours left in the transfer window, they are left waiting for a miracle.
