Less than 24 hours after the winter transfer window slammed shut, reports of Newcastle’s summer plans have already emerged.

As per the Mirror, the Magpies look to be eyeing a double swoop for a centre-back and striker.

They report that Eddie Howe will go back in for top defensive target Sven Botman in the summer and also target Benfica striker Darwin Nunez.

Botman is said to be rated at £35m whilst Nunez is rated at £40m, meaning Newcastle could be set to splash £75m on the two stars.

Have Newcastle done enough in January to stay up?

Though Newcastle did not end up signing Botman in the summer, they did still bring in five players.

Up top, Chris Wood was brought in from Burnley as Newcastle’s only attacking addition.

Though a proven Premier League goalscorer, he had scored just three goals for Burnley this season. Will he and Callum Wilson have enough fire power to keep the Magpies up?

Elsewhere, Bruno Guimaraes was brought in from Lyon as Newcastle’s most expensive signing of the window.

And at the back, Dan Burn, Matt Targett and Kieran Trippier were all signed to tighten up what has been a woeful defensive record this term.

All three come with Premier League experience, but Newcastle still probably could have done with another centre-back addition this month.

All told, transfermarket put Newcastle’s total outlay for January at £91.89m.
