Tottenham could make a move for Brighton defender Tariq Lamptey in the summer, according to reports.

Tottenham had a quiet winter transfer window.

Despite having some glairing issues in their squad, Antonio Conte and co. left it to the final day of the window to secure signings.

Rodrigo Bentancur was signed on a permanent deal, believed to be around £17m, from Juventus whilst Dejan Kulusevski was also brought in from Juve on loan.

Given the departures of a number of midfielders during January, the signing of Bentancur makes a fair bit of sense for Spurs. How effective Kulusevski will be, though, remains to be seen.

But, at the start of January, neither central midfielder nor the wide attacking berths in Tottenham’s squad looked to be in desperate need of improvement.

Instead, it was fairly clear that Tottenham needed a right-wing-back and a centre-back or two.

In the end, after losing out on Adama Traore to Barcelona, Tottenham did not sign a right-wing-back.

However, the Evening Standard have provided some insight in Spurs’ pursuit of said position.

They claim Spurs explored moves for Yannick Carrasco and Djed Spence in January, while Brighton’s Tariq Lamptey is likely to be considered in the summer.

Lamptey a good fit for Tottenham

No further detail is given on Tottenham’s interest in Lamptey, but it seems obvious that the Brighton man would be a great fit for Spurs.

Lamptey operates in a very similar system to how Conte’s sides are generally set up, providing width and a large part of his side’s creativity as a wing-back in a back-five.

He is also seemingly much more defensively sound compared to Tottenham’s two current right-wing-backs, Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty.
