Liverpool added Luis Diaz to their squad in the dying embers of the January transfer window for a reported £40 million fee.

The winger was a known long-term target for the Reds and they nipped in ahead of Tottenham – who showed an interest in the Porto man – to secure him ahead of schedule and provide crucial cover for the attacking talents of Sadio Mane and Mo Salah.

Diaz is yet to train with his new teammates having been away on international duty when he joined the Merseyside outfit, but could still make his debut on Sunday in their FA Cup fourth round clash with Championship side Cardiff.

What needs to happen?

The Times’ Paul Joyce revealed on Thursday that Diaz was waiting in Paris for a visa in order to enter the UK, while he would have to attend a work permit hearing upon arrival, although it is unsure when that will be.

Should it be within the next 24 hours, and Diaz is able to manage a training session with his new side, then it is reported that he is ‘likely’ to make his Liverpool debut on Sunday, although whether he would start or come off the bench remains to be seen.

But, with Mane and Salah both still away at the Africa Cup of Nations, he could be thrown in from the off.
