Premier League outfit Everton have this afternoon been dealt a concerning injury blow, during the early exchanges of the club’s meeting with Brentford.

The under-performing Toffees are of course currently locked in action.

Amid a dismal spell of Premier League form, which has seen them slip precariously close to the relegation zone, Everton, under the guidance of new boss Frank Lampard, have turned their attentions towards the FA Cup in a 5th-round showdown with Thomas Frank’s Brentford.

As alluded to above, though, inside the opening 20 minutes of action, the Blues’ afternoon took a turn for the worse.

This came as Ben Godfrey pulled up with what appeared to be a hamstring injury, forcing the stopper to limp out of proceedings, with Yerry Mina introduced in his place:

Red Devils sent packing

As things stand late in the first-half of action on Merseyside, the scoreline remains locked at 0-0.

Everton will of course be hopeful of avoiding the same fate as another of the Premier League’s more high-profile clubs on Friday night, though, after Manchester United were sent packing from the cup at the hands of Middlesbrough.

After the two sides could not be separated with a full 120 minutes on the clock, proceedings at Old Trafford were forced to a penalty shootout.

And it was Boro who ultimately held their nerve, as 15 successive converted spot-kicks left the weight of the world on the young shoulders of Anthony Elanga, only for the Swede to blast his ensuing effort high into the Manchester sky.
