Sadio Mane has provided an insight into exactly what he told Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah, on the back of the Africa Cup of Nations finale.

Sunday night of course saw Reds pair Mane and Salah go head-to-head, as Senegal and Egypt faced off for AFCON glory in Yaounde, Cameroon.

When all was said and done, it was the former who emerged victorious, to clinch the nation’s first-ever international title.

Not only that, but after the two African heavyweights cancelled each other out across 120 minutes, it was Mane who stepped up to slot home the 5th and decisive shootout spot-kick:

As Senegal’s stars peeled away in celebration, their Egyptian equivalents, on the other hand, were left crestfallen, after seeing glory slip through their fingers at the final hurdle.

Salah, for his part, was not even afforded the chance to try his luck from twelve yards, having been pencilled in as the Pharaohs’ 5th and final penalty taker.

In turn, amid the chaotic post-match scenes inside The Olembe Stadium, Egypt’s star man was sought out by his Liverpool teammate and attacking partner in crime:

And now, 24 hours on, Mane has provided an insight into precisely how he attempted to console Salah.

“I told him that he remains a very great player and it’s a pleasure to play for the same club,” the Senegalese explained to beIN SPORTS, as quoted by The Metro.

“I have so much respect for him and he gave everything for his country.

“Unfortunately, he didn’t win, but that doesn’t mean it’s over for him.

“I also told him that he still has many things to win, including the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. They have a young team so maybe they will win it one day.”

Mo eyeing Leicester comeback

Salah, for his part, is expected to waste little time mulling over Egypt’s AFCON heartbreak, however.

This comes with word having been forthcoming on Monday evening that the prolific wide-man has already returned to England, ahead of linking up with his Liverpool teammates at Kirkby on Tuesday morning.

Not only that, but Salah appears to have his sights set on featuring from the off in Thursday’s Premier League showdown with Leicester City, as the Foxes are forced to face up to the potential wrath of Liverpool’s ever-lethal, and now wounded talisman.
