Christian Eriksen will have to wait a little while longer for his long-awaited return to top-flight football, Brentford boss Thomas Frank has revealed.

The Dane has been ruled out of his side’s clash with Manchester City on Wednesday evening, with his fitness still being assessed by the club ahead of the game.

Eriksen: A story for the Romantic

It was unclear whether or not Eriksen would play professional football again following his cardiac arrest at Euro 2020, where he collapsed during Denmark’s opening group game against Finland in the Summer.

Released by Inter Milan due to Serie A regulations preventing him playing with a pacemaker, he had no doubts that he would play football again at the top level.

And lo-and-behold, the 29 year old signed for Brentford in the final days of the January transfer window on a six month contract, marking a return to the Premier League after his stint with Tottenham Hotspur between 2013 and 2020.

It is a move applauded and loved by many, with Pep Guardiola even taking time out of his pre-match duties to discuss it.

Hopefully, it is a success for both player and club.
