The new manager bump has found a fresh host in the form of struggling Everton after the blue half of Merseyside was left elated earlier today when the Toffees ran out 3-0 winners in front of the home support in what was new boss Frank Lampard’s Premier League home debut.

Goals from veteran right-back Seamus Coleman, center-back Michael Keane, and starlet Anthony Gordon (who also added an assist in the process) were more than enough to see Everton put a bit of distance between themselves and the bottom three.

And for Lampard himself, it was a long-awaited winning result in the Premier League after his return to management after parting ways with Chelsea when the Blues hierarchy called time on their relationship with their legendary former midfielder.

Everton failed to win in his league managerial debut against struggling Newcastle when the Magpies earned a credible 3-1 win at St. James’ Park, but the club has come on strong under the former England international wake despite the loss with today’s result being added to their 4-1 drubbing of Brentford in the fourth round of the FA Cup in what was his first match in charge overall.

Everton break multiple ducks in a much-needed win

For base value, Everton earning an absolutely vital three-point haul at Goodison Park was lovely to see if you subscribe to the blue half of Merseyside, but bucking multiple trends that have taken hold in the 2021-22 Premier League season should be celebrated under Frank Lampard all the same.

Today’s win was just their second win in sixteen Premier League matches which was in stark contrast to their quick start out of the gate that saw them post a 4-1-1 record to begin the season where many felt they could be this season’s dark horse in the European steeplechase.

More importantly, the 3-0 result was the first-time Everton managed to keep a clean sheet in the Premier League since their 0-0 draw against Spurs back on 7 November ten matches ago.

Building on that point briefly, today’s result was just the fourth time in the last-sixteen league matches that the Toffees managed to score 2-goals or more.

Yes, today was just one result, but if some of these outlying trends become regular themes on the storyboard, Everton should be able to avoid the unthinkable come the end of the season.
