Chelsea are looking to strengthen their backline with a bid for Brighton and Hove Albion talent Adam Webster, according to reports.

The Blues, who are currently Champions of the World following their 2-1 win over Brazilian side Palmeiras in the final of the Club World Cup, could be in desperate need of a defensive rebuild come the summer despite their successes.

This comes as Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta are all set to be out of contract come the summer, with no agreements having been reached with any of the trio to stay in west London yet.

The discoveries of Malang Sarr and Trevoh Chalobah this campaign have perhaps eased the sting of losing all three at once, but defensive additions would still need to be made.

And, as per the Mirror, Adam Webster is one of the men that has caught the eye of Thomas Tuchel and co. in west London.

The 27 year old Brighton defender has appeared 14 times for the Seagulls so far in the top flight this season, scoring two goals in the process as he has helped Graham Potter’s side

Who else could come in?

There have been persistent rumours linking Chelsea with a move for Sevilla’s Jules Kounde. Indeed, they saw several summer bids for the French defender turned down, before ultimately settling for what they had.

We could well see Tuchel and co. return for his services, while Real Madrid defender Eder Militao has also been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge this summer.
