A less-than-encouraging photograph of Newcastle United star Kieran Trippier has surfaced on Sunday evening, on the back of the club’s meeting with Aston Villa.

For those not aware, stopper Trippier was one of two Magpies defenders to have been forced to depart the action at St. James’ Park this afternoon prematurely.

After Javier Manquillo made way late in the first-half, fellow full-back Trippier did likewise shortly after the interval.

This of course came after Newcastle’s starring January addition was previously labelled a doubt to feature at all against Villa, owing to a calf problem.

In turn, the Geordie faithful were no doubt hopeful on the back of the full-time whistle sounding on Tyneside this afternoon that a positive update would soon be forthcoming on Trippier’s wellbeing.

Far from that, however, has since in fact surfaced online.

As showcased below, the veteran English international was spotted post-match on crutches, with his left foot and ankle wrapped in a protective boot:

The alarming latest images of Trippier to have made their way onto social media of course come after the former Atletico Madrid man proved match-winner for his new club on Sunday afternoon.

Despite being hauled off just minutes into the 2nd-half on Tyneside, it was Trippier’s 35th-minute free-kick (his 2nd in two games) which proved the difference between the sides upon the full-time whistle bringing a close to proceedings on Tyneside:

Their latest triumph, a 3rd-straight for Eddie Howe’s rejuvenated troops, means that Newcastle have now climbed a full four points clear of the Premier League’s relegation zone, a scenario which appeared frankly unthinkable just weeks ago.
