Liverpool are set to return to European action on Wednesday the 16th of February.

The Reds will take on Inter Milan in the first of two Round of 16 ties.

Ahead of the game, fans are no doubt hoping to see new signing Luis Diaz in action.

Luis Diaz was signed by Liverpool from FC Porto during the January transfer window and has already made an impact for the Reds, coming off the bench to provide an assist vs Cardiff in his first outing.

But with Diaz having played in the Champions League already this season for FC Porto, some fans may be unsure if the Colombian is eligible to play in the competition for a second side this season.

After all, in England, if a player is used in the FA or League Cup by one team, he cannot then play in those competitions for a second English team in the same season.

However, as confirmed by Liverpool themselves, Diaz is eligible to play in the Round of 16 vs Inter, whilst the Italians themselves could welcome a couple of new faces into their matchday squad:

“Luis Diaz is eligible to make his Champions League debut for Liverpool, as are Robin Gosens and Felipe Caicedo – who have been registered for the knockout rounds in place of Aleksandar Kolarov and Stefano Sensi – for Inter.”

Inter Milan vs Liverpool

Liverpool and Inter Milan are first set to face off at 8 pm UK time on Wednesday.

That clash will take place at the San Siro, with the return leg at Anfield playing out on March 8th.

Though Inter are a solid side and are well in with a shot at securing a second league title on the bounce, their record in Europe has not been great for some time now.

Liverpool have also already beaten AC Milan, who are currently top of the Serie A, twice in the Champions League group stages this season.
