Previous comments on the part of Jose Mourinho could help Chelsea get the best out of Romelu Lukaku.

Lukaku would make his long-awaited return to Chelsea this past summer. This was followed by the Belgian hitting the ground running at Stamford Bridge, netting three goals in his first three Premier League outings.

However, Lukaku’s form then dipped off a fair bit before he picked up an injury that kept him out of four league ties. The hitman returned in gameweek 13, but his minutes were limited, something which was then not helped by a positive test for Covid-19.

Things then looked to have turned a corner for the former Inter Milan standout when he scored two and assisted one in weeks 19 and 20 of the Premier League campaign.

However, the striker then saw that interview released and his form has been poor since.

Lukaku has failed to register a single goal or assist in the Blues’ last four league ties and was woeful against Plymouth in the FA Cup recently.

Jose Mourinho has told Chelsea how to get best out of Lukaku

Now though, comments from Jose Mourinho last year have re-emerged and could help Chelsea get the best out of Lukaku.

Mourinho, of course, managed Lukaku during his time at Manchester United and though he was not the most productive he has ever been in his career under the Portuguese, the Belgian was still performing better than he is at Chelsea for the most part.

So what did Mourinho say? Well, the ex-Chelsea man stated that Lukaku needs to feel he is the man and he is the number one and loved, adding that Lukaku being loved by the coach and supporters made a big impact at Inter:

“He needs to feel he’s the man and he’s the number one and loved,” Mourinho said last summer when asked about Lukaku’s spectacular form since leaving Manchester United.

“He was loved by the coach and supporters and made a big impact [at Inter]. The press was also supporting him. He got that love.

“If he didn’t score goals [for United] what he did for the team was not enough. It hurt him.”

But given Lukaku already looks to have burnt bridges with Tuchel and the fans after the interview referenced above, perhaps we will never see Lukaku at his best at Chelsea?
