Arsenal have been linked with a central midfielder over the weekend, which will likely please fans given their lack of players/quality in that area.

Most Arsenal fans will likely agree that their club currently need to strengthen in two key areas. These are at centre-forward and in central midfield.

Whilst both issues will need to be addressed in 2022, it has become obvious of late that central midfield represents the more pressing of the two.

Mohamed Elneny is out of contract in north London at the end of this season.

Elsewhere, the Gunners have loaned Ainsley-Maitland Niles to AS Roma for the remainder of the campaign and his future at the club does not look to be very bright.

This leaves just an inexperienced Albert Sambi Lokonga, Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka as senior central midfield options at the club.

The latter of that trio has proven time and time again that he is a reckless individual that cannot be relied upon when it really counts.

Arsenal eye Enzo Fernandez

Now, as per Spanish outlet Fichajes (as cited by football.london), River Plate midfielder Enzo Fernandez has popped up on the radars of Premier League sides Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United.

Fernandez would come up through River Plate’s youth system and after spending a season out on loan in 2020/21, is now featuring for his current side on a regular basis.

Fernandez has scored two and assisted four in 28 outings for River Plate to date.

The 21-year-old would also receive a call-up to the Argentine national team back at the end of 2021, but he is still yet to make his debut for them.
