Chelsea star Trevoh Chalobah has taken to social media to reveal his bemusement with the decision not to send Naby Keita off during his side’s meeting with Liverpool on Sunday.

The incident in question came just shy of the hour mark during yesterday’s Carabao Cup showpiece.

After the ball bounced in the air in the middle of the Wembley pitch, Chalobah and Keita quickly arrived on the scene, in an attempt to claim possession for their respective sides.

In the end, it was Liverpool who emerged with the ball, with both players left grounded near the halfway line.

Upon replays being broadcast, however, it quickly became clear that Chalobah had come away from the exchange much the worse of the pair:

This comes after Keita completely missed the ball, instead directing his studs into the groin of Chelsea’s up-and-coming defender.

Despite as much, however, the VAR team overseeing proceedings at Wembley ultimately decided that no further action was required.

And one individual who, as alluded to above, post-match still could not quite believe the eventual decision on the part of the officials was none other than the man on the receiving end of the challenge itself.

Taking to his official social media platforms, Trevoh Chalobah reposted footage of a debate amongst the Sky Sports punditry team surrounding Keita’s lunge, accompanied by the caption:

‘Had to get stitches because of this. Referee is right there I don’t get it??’

Kepa’s miss decides it

Of course, Keita being afforded what was essentially a get out of jail free card ultimately proved significant when it came to the outcome of proceedings on Sunday evening.

This came as the Guinean remained on the pitch through the 80th-minute, before his replacement, James Milner, slotted home in confident fashion from the spot during the ensuing penalty shootout.

From here, it was Chelsea no.2 Kepa Arrizabalaga, introduced off the bench specifically owing to his renowned expertise in shootout situations, whose miss from 12 yards proved decisive, as Liverpool clinched the first major piece of silverware of the English calendar:
