Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Bruno Lage was not at all shy in singling one particular member of his squad out for considerable criticism, on the back of the club’s meeting with Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The player targeted by the Portuguese tactician? Ki-Jana Hoever.

Youngster Hoever was afforded just a 4th Premier League start of the campaign this afternoon, lining out on the right of Wolves’ back-5 for the club’s Molineux showdown with Palace.

The Dutchman, however, lasted just 25 minutes, before being hauled off owing to an unspecified fitness issue.

As alluded to above, though, one individual who was evidently not in the most sympathetic of moods when it comes to Hoever’s injury post-match, was none other than manager Bruno Lage.

Speaking in a press conference on the back of the action coming to a close at Molineux, Wolves’ boss was drawn on his young defender’s wellbeing.

Lage, though, was instead keen to make use of the opportunity to take aim at Hoever in ruthless fashion, accusing the former Liverpool talent of not working hard enough in training, amid the insinuation that the player himself should be blamed for picking up his latest injury:

Zaha amongst the goals

Lage’s evident frustration post-match of course comes with Wolves having endured another afternoon to forget on Saturday.

An altogether uninspired performance ultimately saw the day’s hosts put to the sword by two goals to nil by Crystal Palace, owing to strikes on the part of Jean-Philippe Mateta and Wilfried Zaha.

Wolves, in turn, remain 8th in the Premier League table, now on the outside looking in at the battle for European football owing to a trio of successive defeats.
