News that will have handed fresh hope to all Real Madrid fans broke this morning as it emerged that star forward Kylian Mbappe is a major doubt for the second leg of their Champions League clash with PSG.

The Spanish side trail Paris Saint Germain by a single goal following a stale affair at the parc de princes, that was punctured only by the mesmeric brilliance of Kylian Mbappe.

Picking the ball up on the left edge of the penalty area in second-half stoppage time, the PSG forward burst through two defenders before firing past Thibaut Courtois and sending the PSG fans into raptures.

It was a stark reminder of just why Real Madrid are pushing so hard to bring him to the club in the summer, but it one that they are unlikely to have wanted, nor needed.

Mbappe a major doubt

However, they will have been bouyed by the news that the face of PSG is set to sit out the return leg. The news first broke that he was a doubt for the clash on Monday morning, after sustaining an injury in training.

Then, in it got worse, as the French star was labelled ‘highly unlikely’ to play against Los Blancos on Wednesday evening at the Santiago Bernabeu.

While PSG can still field a front line including Neymar, Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria, Mbappe is the French side’s true dangerman thanks to his pace and ability to run in behind any defender.

Without him spearheading the attack, Carlo Ancelotti will fancy his side’s chances.
