Manchester United could be set to face a mass exodus this summer, but left-back Luke Shaw is seemingly unlikely to be part of it.

Jesse Lingard and Paul Pogba are both out of contract this summer, along with veteran pair Juan Mata and Edinson Cavani. Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford is thought to be considering his future following his snub in the Manchester derby, that saw him start the game on the bench despite being the only recognised striker in the squad.

As per the Guardian, however, Luke Shaw is keen to remain in Manchester, despite his contract expiring in 2023. The Red Devils have an option to extend their full-back’s current deal until 2024, but they will be looking to open talks over the defender’s future in the coming weeks.

And the report claims that ‘Shaw is open to signing a new deal at Manchester United, with the defender enjoying playing for the club he joined in summer 2014 from Southampton’, which will come as a huge relief to the Manchester United faithful.

It is expected that the defender would receive a pay-rise on his current £150k per week deal were a new contract to be agreed.

Top 4 hopes hanging by a thread?

Manchester United’s current hopes to finish in the top 4 – in itself a disappointment for the Red Devils- hang by a thread at present.

Currently in 5th place, they sit 2 points behind Arsenal, with the Gunners having three games in hand on Ralf Rangnick’s side.

Tottenham Hotspur are next up for the Red Devils at Old Trafford, with both teams knowing that nothing but a victory will suffice. Should Tottenham beat United, it would leave the once title-contenders a point behind Antonio Conte’s team, who would also have two games in hand.

The importance of the clash cannot be overstated.
