Aston Villa star Ashley Young was not shy in taking aim at Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal squad, on the back of the meeting between the two sides this afternoon.

Young and co. of course welcomed the Gunners to Villa Park earlier today, no doubt hopeful of a bounce-back result after seeing a 3-game winning streak brought to an end by West Ham last time out.

Unfortunately for the Claret and Blue, however, when all was said and done in the west Midlands, it was Arsenal who emerged on the right side of a 1-0 scoreline.

A solitary first-half strike on the part of Bukayo Saka proved the difference upon the full-time whistle sounding, further cementing the visitors’ position in the top-4:

In the immediate aftermath of the clash, it therefore came as little surprise to see Mikel Arteta’s stars in jubilant mood, amid joyous celebrations on the Villa Park pitch.

As alluded to above, though, one individual who evidently felt as though such actions proved altogether over the top, was Villans star Ashley Young.

Speaking in a post-match interview, Young was drawn on the attempts of his side to make their home ground something of a fortress.

And the veteran wide-man, from here, couldn’t help but make use of the opportunity to aim a dig at his Arsenal counterparts, accusing the Gunners of celebrating as though they had ‘won the league’:

”We want to make this a tough place to come and I think it is a tough place.”

”You saw the way they celebrated, to be honest it was like they won the league. But it shows they found it tough.”

‘In the past 10 years…’

Young’s jibe, of course, does not mark the first when it comes to opposition criticism of what many clearly believe has been excessive post-game glee on the part of Mikel Arteta’s squad of late.

Just last month, Wolves’ Ruben Neves too took aim at the capital outfit, on the back of a 1-0 defeat at Molineux:
