Arsenal look to have reignited their interest in Philippe Coutinho ahead of the summer window.

The Gunners had previously been heavily linked with the Brazilian during his time with Barcelona, but those links did die down after the emergence of Emile Smith Rowe and the permanent signing of Martin Odegaard.

Now though, as per football.london citing Spanish outlet Sport, Arsenal are exploring the possibility of making a move for Coutinho after his loan spell with Aston Villa comes to an end.

It is added that the north Londoners are considering swooping for his services should Aston Villa elect not to activate their £33m option in their deal.

Steven Gerrard has previously been asked about the possibility of signing Coutinho permanently.

The Brazilian has had a very bright start to his return to England, netting four and providing three assists in 10 appearances so far.

When asked about Villa buying Coutinho, though, Gerrard remained rather coy: “Philippe Coutinho is a joy to watch, we love him here. Buy option for €40m? It’s more complicated than people think.

“The option is there. If it was my money, I think you know the answer.”

Should Arsenal sign Coutinho?

After the emergence of Smith Rowe and Martin Odegaard as key players, the need for Coutinho at the Emirates did look to have been lessened.

However, now Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has gone, Arsenal could probably do with another left-winger.

Gabriel Martinelli is a natural in that spot, but if Arsenal are in Europe next season, they could do with some more natural options in that area, which Coutinho would be.
