Mauricio Pochettino has dropped a fairly big hint over his future this weekend.
The Argentine is currently at the helm of French powerhouse PSG, but after failing to make it past the Champions League Round of 16 this year, there has been speculation that Pochettino’s time in the capital is almost over.
However, when speaking to the media ahead of their Ligue 1 clash with Monaco, Pochettino expressed his hope that he would still be able to guide PSG to Champions League glory: “We are competitive by nature. This kind of challenge is an exciting one to take on… To give the possibility to fight for this (Champions League) title, it’s exciting.
“Beyond the sadness, to give PSG the possibility to fight to fulfil their objectives is always a great challenge. And yes, we feel capable of it. Afterwards, it’s a question of exchanges. We will have to sit down with the club to exchange. To find the best formula. To see the vision, the future, the ideas, the project.”
This would obviously require the South American to stay on in Paris for at least another year.
And when he was asked about his future at the French club, with speculation he may return to the Premier League next season, Pochettino has this to say: “We will analyse everything at the end of the season.
“We will see at the end of the season (if I stay). It will be the club’s decision.”
Who will Manchester United bring in?
Should Pochettino end up staying on at PSG, that would likely point to Manchester United bringing in Ajax’s Erik ten Hag.
Outside of that duo, Chelsea’s Thomas Tuchel has been linked, but seemed keen to dismiss those rumours: “Do you feel me less committed or involved with this club,” Tuchel asked. “Absolutely not. I love to work for Chelsea and this club has everything it needs to make me happy.”
