Tottenham centre-back Cristian Romero has earned a comparison to Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk after Spurs’ latest win.

Tottenham would take on West Ham in a London derby this past weekend. It was a game both sides could ill afford to lose if they wished to keep some sort of pace with 4th place Arsenal.

And, when all was said and done at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Antonio Conte’s side came away with a 3-1 win thanks to a Kurt Zouma own goal and brace from Heung-min Son:

Tottenham are now up to 5th in the Premier League, three points behind Arsenal who have one game in hand.

Romero compared to Virgil van Dijk

Following the game Cristian Romero has been praised heavily by Ashley Williams.

The Welshman, speaking on Match of the Day on Sunday evening, suggested that there were comparisons between Romero and Virgil van Dijk:

“He is tough, he is solid, he is strong, he likes the battle, he does not shy away from it at all. “There are comparisons with Virgil van Dijk, upper-body strength, doesn’t get beat much in a one v one.”

Very high praise considering what a talent VVD is.
